Welcome to the Oman Oil Marketing Company SAOG (OOMCO) Mobile App (hereafter the “App”). OOMCO and its subsidiaries take protection of and respect for your personal data very seriously and we are committed to ensuring that your personal data is protected.
The Policy explains how we collect, use and share the information gathered about you through your use of the App and aims to inform you about the rights and freedoms that you can exercise with regard to our use of your personal data. This Policy also describes the measures we implement to protect this data.
If you do not want us to process any of your personal information through this App, as set out in this Policy, you may reject the privacy notification and uninstall the app immediately.
OOMCO with registered office at Mina Al Fahal, Muscat, Oman, is the “data controller” for personal data relating to use of the App. These processing operations are carried out in accordance with applicable law and are subject to pre-established procedural requirements.
The terms “we”, “our”, “us” refer to OOMCO, in its capacity as data controller.
This Policy sets out our privacy practices as follows:
1. What personal data do we collect from you?
To ensure the protection of your privacy and your personal data, we define personal data as any information that identifies or enables to identify an individual, directly or indirectly, by reference to an identifier (such as an identification number or location data) or one or several factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that individual.
We collect personal data in different ways and this data will be processed in accordance with the purposes described below.
1.1. Data you provide to us directly
In order to use the App and to benefit from our services, you must provide us with a certain amount of personal data at the time of registration to create your account or to receive news, offers and promotions. This can include but is not limited to your surname, first name, date of birth, civil number, phone number, e-mail address, gender.
2. How and for what purposes do we use your personal data?
We use the personal data we collect from you for the following purposes:
- to register users for OOMCO promotions;
- to answer your questions or information requests more efficiently;
- to provide you with information about nearby OOMCO stations (“Station Locator”);
- to provide you with business information to administer the App for internal operations including troubleshooting;
- to ensure that content from the App is presented in the most effective manner for you and your devices;
- as part of our effort to keep the App safe and secure;
- to send you information or promotions on our products and proposed services;
- to administer your use of the loyalty program and the Prepaid Cards/Wallet (Basma+) functionality of the App;
- to send you personalized advertisements that we think may interest you based on your preferences and your use of the App;
- to measure or understand the effectiveness and acknowledgment of the advertising we serve to you and others;
- to notify you when updates for the App are available and of changes to any products or services we offer or provide through it;
- to understand your preferences and improve your experience and user satisfaction when you use the App and our services;
- to carry out statistical analyses on use of the App and usage frequency; and
- to monitor the stability and performance of the App in order to improve it.
3. How we share and disclose your personal data?
We share your information within OOMCO for the purposes outlined in this Policy.
We may also share your personal data with third party service providers whom we have selected to manage the functionalities of the App, to facilitate or extend our services (such as any functionality which is embedded in the App and provided by an authorized third party provider) and for the following purposes:
- when explicitly requested by you (e.g. with social media networks);
- when required by a court order or any legal or regulatory requirement;
- in connection with the sale or transfer of a business for fulfilling our obligations to you;
- to ensure the safety and security of our users, consumers and third parties; and
- to protect our rights and property and the rights and property of third parties.
4. Where your data is stored?
Your personal data is stored by OOMCO in a central database located in Singapore (By 2020 the database will be shifted locally to Oman).
We may also send your personal data to third party service providers who may be located outside the country. Where that is the case, we will comply with the Data Privacy laws of The Sultanate of Oman to transfer your personal data outside the country and implement appropriate measures to ensure the protection of your personal data.
5. How long we store your data?
We will not retain your information for longer than is necessary for our business purposes or for legal requirements. However, please be advised that we may retain some information after you have closed your account with us (or unsubscribed from our services), for instance if doing so is necessary to meet our legal obligations, such as retaining the information for tax and accounting purposes.
6. Your rights and choices
In accordance with applicable local law, you have the right to request access to your personal data, or to modify, rectify, and delete your personal data, and to object to the processing of your personal data for legitimate reasons.
Where you have provided consent in relation to any processing carried out by us through the App (e.g., to provide you with location based services or marketing notifications), you may withdraw your consent at any time, in which case we will cease to process your data for such purposes and stop offering you those services (unless we have another legal basis for continuing).
To exercise your rights, please send us your request using the contact details, either by e-mail or by post. If you make such a request, we are entitled to request appropriate identification before complying.
You can also request to close your account at any time by contacting us as described below.
7. Opt out of direct marketing
We use the information you provide us (including your email address) for direct marketing purposes.
Particularly, when you use the App, if you accept push notifications and/or to receive special offers and promotions, you may receive App notifications or promotional offers by mail or post mail from us.
If you no longer wish to receive push notifications from us, you can disable this service by changing your phone settings:
On Android devices, simply go to: Settings → General → App Manager then find the OOMCO App → uncheck the “Show notifications”.
On Apple devices, simply go to: Settings -> Notifications -> OOMCO App -> uncheck “Allow Notifications”.
If you no longer wish to receive promotional offers from us, you can disable this service by unchecking the relevant box in the “My profile > My settings” section of the App.
Your rights and choices with respect to cookies and other tracking technologies are set out under section 9.
8. Cookies and other technologies
8.1 What are cookies?
A cookie is a file which records information about how you use your device to browse the Internet (e.g., number of visits, number of pages accessed, etc.) and in particular helps us enhance your experience within the App.
8.2 Types of cookies we use?
For example, they may be used to provide a service you requested (language preference, login identification, etc.).
Other cookies that we use are served by third parties to enable us to track and target the interests of our users and to enhance the experience on our App.
Third party cookies are served through our App for advertising, analytics and social media purposes.
When cookies require your agreement before their installation we ask you for this using an information banner or notification appearing within the app App on your phone. Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of these cookies else you may refuse such cookies by uninstalling the App.
Statistics cookies measure the number of visits, the number of tabs viewed, user activity on the App and user return frequency. The statistics cookies used generate a cookie with a unique identifier which has a duration period limited to 13 months. Your IP address is also collected to determine the address where you connect.
This information is immediately anonymized after use to prevent your identification as a natural person. The traffic statistics data is collected by the service provider and then provided to us in aggregate and anonymous form in a web interface accessible only to the data controller. The data collected is not transferred to third parties, or used for other purposes. You can block these cookies at any time by using the opt-out procedure mentioned above.
Please note that that our advertising and social media cookies are embedded within the App so if you object to the use of such cookies please do not install this App on your device.
9. How we protect your personal data?
We undertake to take appropriate technical and organizational measures to preserve the security and privacy of your personal data and, in particular, to prevent it from being distorted or damaged, and to prevent access to it by unauthorized third parties.
Similarly, we ensure that any third parties having access to the data have adequate protection levels in place to preserve the privacy of the personal data transmitted to them.
10. External links?
If any part of the App links you to a website, those websites do not operate under this Policy. We recommend you examine the privacy statements posted on those websites to understand their procedures for collecting, using and disclosing personal data.
10. Personal data of minors?
Please note that the App is reserved for persons over 18 years of age and we are not intending to collect or process personal data of minors below 18. Consequently, if you are aged under 18, please get your parent’s or guardian’s permission before you share information with us using the App.
Users without this consent are not allowed to provide us with information and, if they do so, we will cease to process their information as soon as we find out. We cannot be held liable if information belonging to minors is entered during registration in breach of these stipulations.

This Policy was last updated on 28th April, 2019. You can find the latest version under the settings menu of the App. We reserve the right to review and revise this Policy from time to time, in particular to satisfy the requirements of providers of platforms for the distribution of applications. We will inform you about any such change and we will provide you with a then current version of the Policy.
